“I saw you on the Carol Duvall show. You use your talent really well. I love those dragons! I want to get one for my son’s medieval room. I can’t wait to order it.”

How to Get a Head Without Hunting
Each of the grand dragons below is an original.
They have been sold, but our artist Merikay can make one quite
similar to any of them, just for you.
Our ruby grand dragon head sculpture is built
upon a handmade paper-maché base covered with scales made with reflective red
fabrics, overlapping a contrasting layer of black. Our artist Merikay accented his face with a
rich black velvet, and created his eyes using a slumped glass process that was then
enhanced with sparkling glitters.
His name while he was with us was Rupert the Ruby Dragon. No word yet on what his
new owners have called him...
You or yours can have such a shining example of dragonhood. Just click on the “Add to
Cart and Check Out” link below!
About Grand Dragons
Our Grand Dragons are not, nor have they ever been, associated with the Ku Klux Klan.
They’re simply the largest and finest example of dragon-kind that Merikay has made.
Like our other Dragons, they’re available in a variety of skin and eye
colors.
The
scales of our green iridescent grand dragon sculpture
are made with a tie-dyed velveteen and an iridescent violet fabric. Her face is accented
with a rich dark green velvet. Her eyes are
are a composite of small jewels mounted on an acrylic base and sealed with resin.
Merikay created this dragon as a special order for a customer in New Jersey. The dragon
has been named Spring Queen.
Some of the fabrics used are no longer available, but we can discuss other
fabric and color choices for your special dragon.
We
still have some of the fabrics that our artist
Merikay used to create our carnival grand dragon sculpture. She enhanced his expressive
face with dragon spurs, a bit of a
beard, and glossy teeth. She used large acrylic crystals for his eyes. Unfortunately
this type of crystal is no longer available, but she is creating some good
alternatives.
This carnival dragon won an award and has been sold,
but you can order one quite like him to guard your castle while you’re away,
and to keep you company when you’re at home.
Our
silver grand dragon head sculpture is
similarly built upon a handmade paper-maché base, covered
with silver-hued fabrics. The tilt of its head gives it a perky appearance.
Its horns are handmade and its eyes are large acrylic crystals.
This type of crystal is no longer available, but slumped-glass eyes (like
those of the ruby dragon above) are a wonderful alternative.
This silver dragon has been sold, but you may order one similar to it in attitude to give
a touch of magic to the decor of any room!
This
gorgeous creature is our tricolor velvet grand dragon head sculpture. Merikay used two velvets that have a
scale pattern printed on them. It was more of a challenge to control
the direction of the scales than when she hand cut and apply them individually!
She has just enough of these fabrics to make one more tricolor dragon.
This dragon has been sold, but you can still order one for yourself or someone
who needs a guardian.
Our
gold grand dragon head sculpture is built upon a
handmade paper-maché base, covered with carefully cut and placed fabric skin
and scales. She was completed in March 1999, and inhabits a castle in Illinois along
with several of my winged dragons.
Her upright bearing and queenly posture can’t quite hide a streak of mischief
that she shares with certain of our other dragons. Your order for your
own gold queen will start an email dialogue to help you choose the right
personality for your dragon.
Grand dragons may be ordered in many colors.
(See our Winged Dragons, Hatchling
Dragons, and Hoard Dragons pages for some of the possibilities.)
If you see a color you like, make note of it in the “Notes and Special
Instructions” field of our order form.
