How to Get a Head Without Hunting
Hippo Head Sculpture
There will be smiles all around when you bring this wonderfully whimsical hippo head sculpture into your life.

Our artist Merikay builds the supporting structure for my hippo head sculpture with paper-maché. She creates its hide-like skin using an original treated-fabric process to provide a fairly subtle “rough wet look”. Its hand-painted big brown eyes will endear it to a hippo enthusiast of any age.

This one sold on the preview night of a San Francisco show, and later won an award at another show. You can order one for yourself or as a gift.

About Hippos
Hippos live in Africa, where they’re sometimes called “river horses”. They live in rivers and lakes in the daytime, because they sweat tremendously out of the water and would dehydrate and die in the sun on land. Being mammals, of course they have to come up for air, but they like to spend their days running along the bottoms of rivers and lakes. Even mud wallows with just a little water are enough to keep them from drying out. At night hippos come up on land to feed on grasses and other plants.
